About Us

Athlone Photography Club was formed in the summer of 2013, when fifteen photography enthusiasts met in a local hotel and set about getting a photography club off the ground in the Athlone area. From there the seed was sown and Athlone Photography Club was born. Established as a learning forum for anyone with an interest in photography, the club has gone from strength to strength since then to become one of the biggest camera clubs in the region.

The Club meets every second Wednesday at 7.30 pm (unless otherwise stated) at the Abbey Road Studio in the heart of Athlone. Absolute beginners and more experienced photo enthusiasts welcome – the only requirement being an interest in photography and respect for fellow members. The Club runs a varied programme throughout the year, generally from September through to June, with a mixture of guest speakers, talks, workshops, challenges, and competitions to encourage members to try new things, learn new skills, and have fun along the way.

The club and its members compete in national competitions as an affiliated member of the Irish Photography Federation. If interested in improving your camera skills, sharing your knowledge or simply joining our club, contact Tom Cunningham (Chairperson) or Paul Doran (Secretary). Alternatively e-mail us at athlonephotographyclub@gmail.com or sign up for our newsletter for more details about the club and upcoming events.
